One great perk of owning a motorcycle is the option to drive it to work. You’ll save on gas as a motorcycle guzzles way less than a car. You’ll be able to weave in and out of traffic easier. You’ll enjoy a more exciting ride than sitting in a car. It makes a draining part of the day more fun! But before you can start riding to work, you’ll need the right gear to make things more comfortable. We gathered up the essential motorcycle accessories below. For all your motorcycle needs, visit Moroney’s Motorsports. Our dealership is located in New Windsor, New York, and we also serve Newburgh.

Visibility Gear

As you commute, you face safety threats. One of the biggest ones is other motorists. People are not always the safest drivers! They text and drive, drive drowsy, and other unsafe behavior. It only takes a second for a car to enter your lane. Wearing visibility gear, like a bright neon vest, helps others see you and give you the space you need.

Gloves

Motorcycle gloves accomplish two goals. First, they help you grip your controls. When it’s hot out, hands sweat. When it’s cold, hands shiver. Gloves help block out the negative effects of weather so you can easily manipulate your controls. Second, gloves guard your sensitive skin in the event you crash. It gives a protective covering so you don’t scrape your hand against the road.

You’ll want to make sure your gloves fit well. If they are too loose, it’ll be hard to use the controls. If they are too tight, it’ll be uncomfortable. When you find the right fit, you can add a silk glove liner to make them more comfortable to wear.

Hearing Protection

When you ride at 40 miles per hour, you encounter noise loud enough to cause permanent hearing damage. This noise is a combination of road noise, your engine, and the wind. Your helmet won’t do anything to block it out. You need hearing protection, which can be as simple as earplugs. For a better fit, opt for reusable wax balls or custom earplugs.

Riding Boots

Riding boots are important for a few reasons. They guard your feet against weather, debris, spray from other motorists, etc. They provide essential grip to help you ride. They give you the support you need in the event you tip over (and need to push yourself back up).

Neck Protection

There is a small spot of exposed skin between the end of your jacket and the bottom of your helmet. Of course, this is where the wind tends to go! On a longer ride, you’ll really start to notice the wind hitting against it. Neck protection solves this issue. A balaclava helps block wind, keep your neck warm, and wicks sweat in warm weather.

Rain Gear

It’s best to avoid riding in the rain if possible. But sometimes, a drizzle comes out of nowhere. Waterproof outerwear keeps you dry and warm. It’s easy to find lightweight options that you can store in your motorcycle without taking up too much space. Opt for a neon colored option since visibility is reduced in the rain.
